Projects and designs

Create projects, manage tool instances, rename designs inline, and identify tool types with colour-coded badges.

Overview

A project is the container for all work on one real-world engineering job. Inside each project you add tool instances — one per structural element or design task. Each tool instance holds its own design options, which let you explore alternatives and compare results side by side.

Design grid

When you open a project, the design grid shows every tool instance added to that project. Each card displays the design name and a colour-coded tool badge identifying which tool the instance uses:

The badge colour makes it easy to scan a mixed project and identify tool types at a glance, particularly when a project contains many designs across multiple tools.

Locked designs

Tool access is granted per workspace. A design whose tool the current workspace does not have a subscription for is shown locked: the card is dimmed, a padlock and a Pro badge appear beside the tool badge, and the Open and delete buttons are replaced by a Locked label. A locked card cannot be expanded to its design options.

Because access is scoped to the workspace, the same design can be open in one workspace and locked in another. A subscription bought by your personal workspace does not unlock tools inside a team workspace, and vice versa — each workspace funds its own tool access. Switch workspaces from the workspace menu, or see Organisations and billing to add a subscription to the workspace you are working in.

The project name shown in the page heading is rendered from URL context and remains visible even while the design list is loading. If the list fails to load — due to a network error or a temporary backend issue — the grid shows an explicit error state with a Retry button rather than a blank or empty page.

Inline rename

To rename a design, click its name directly in the design grid. The name switches to an editable field inline — no separate dialog opens.

The updated name saves immediately. The rest of the grid remains interactive while you edit.

Design options

Within a tool instance, design options let you branch the design and compare alternatives. Each option shares the same section geometry and material definitions from the parent instance, but you can adjust reinforcement, cover, design code, or loading independently per option.
